Elimisha_us is a community of passionate people who promote learning with experience. This community promotes the concept that true education starts outside and (sometimes) after the formal education structure. True education happens by building experience, first, and then documenting and sharing it.
“Elimisha_us” is a Kiswahili-English phrase that calls for passionate idea holders to “educate us” – by sharing their knowledge, way of thinking and experience.
OUR THINKING
We agree with Sir Ken Robinson that the formal education system educates learning out of people and kills the creativity that is necessary to define new solutions for our challenges – especially in Africa. If we are to creatively find solutions to our challenges in Africa – in relevant and sustainable ways, then we must foster learning through action and sharing of ideas.
Specifically, we promote learning with experience by:-
- evangelising blogging as a tool for sharing experience and ideas and providing freely hosted blogs to people who are passionate about what they do and about learning.
- It is our vision to have 100 passionate bloggers (who would not ordinarily have blogged)
- Organising unique social events to facilitate networking and the sharing of ideas
